Rough Shifting
If I step on the gas pretty hard in 1st (stopped or rolling...it's the same) and I get almost or up to the redline and then try to shift quickly...it's pretty rough. Normal driving there is no problem. If I force it kinda hard, it will grind a little. If I'm hard on it but I don't force it, it takes forever to pop into gear. It's like the rpm's have to go way down before it will pop into 2nd gear.
I'm making for sure that my pedal is all the way down... I checked the clutch fluid... and I replaced the clutch like mmmmm maybe 3 or 4 thousand miles ago and I broke it in properly... just a little more info!
So what's the problem you think guys and gals?

Yeah guys... Transmissions aren't a stong point in my knowledge about cars... but I know enough to where the syncros sound like it could be the problem.
I've had the car for about 3 months maybe? When I pulled the tranny to replace the rear main seal (leaking realllly bad) my uncle and I saw how worn the clutch disk was...and the pressure plate was scorched in several places. So that's when we decided to replace the clutch. I didn't have the money at the time to get an aftermarket clutch kit (which I wish I had) so I had to go with autozone.... Duralast was the brand of the clutch kit. It had a throwout bearing, clutch plate and pressure plate. And that was like I said 3 or 4 thousand miles ago.
Lets say that I know it'st the syncros for sure... Would I be better off
a)rebuilding the tranny myself
b)having a shop rebuild it
c)looking for one at a junk yard
d)buying a whole new/ rebuilt tranny
e)or what do YOU suggest?
Thanks
Branden

if you have the knowledge and feel comfortable with doing it yourself, i say rebuild it. even if you mess up, you were gunna buy a new one anyway. right?

Most likely the synchros are worn, wrong or low fluid in transmission,or the clutch is not releasing fully. You could always learn to double clutch, and you won't need no stinking synchoros. LOL
I just changed the fluid when I changed the clutch so it's new...and I used this really expensive tranny fluid. It' was like... mmm Dex 6? ALSO the book said to use automatic transmission fluid... isn't that weird?
Double clutching takes a long time... I guess you can get fast at it... it's not that hard. And the whole point is so I can shift pretty quickly so... ya know...
On a scale from 1 to 10...how tough would you say it is to rebuild your transmission yourself?
Thanks

it doesnt matter if you used $15 a qt. tranny fluid. if you didnt get the right kind for you trans that gm recommends. you could be doing some damage.
i know you can get books on how to rebuild trans'
you could prolly get some sort of write-up/walkthrough from the internet
but like i said, only " if you feel comfortable "

Rebuilding a transmission can be very difficult. Usually it requires special tools, and you have to know what your looking for if the transmission is having problems. I would not recommend that you do it, especially if you have not done it before. As far at the manual trans goes, it isn't extremely important that atf be used. atf is very thin, and makes for fast smooth shifts. However, thicker fluid can be used since it doesn't pump the fluid like an automatic. I personally run royal purple synthetic fluid with some slick 50 in it.
