replacing oil pan gasket
I searched a lot for some instruction but maybe i just missed it, is there a write-up or does anyone have some instructions on how to replace the oil pan gasket, and does it involve removing the exhaust pipe? I don't know if it is the problem, but when i had my oil changed, they said it's probably the gasket. TIA James
To do it in the car, the trans and exhaust have to come out to get the clearence to remove the pan. Along with removing the motor mount bolts and jacking the engine up, ya its a pain in the ***. This is if you wanna do it with it still in the car,
could you not leave it in the car? i hvae not looked under there, but in the ls1 you cannot take the pan out either, but you can remove all of the bolts just fine. if u prop the back end of the pan up from hanging it leaves about an inch gap all the way around. you can wipe it clean and slide the new gasket in, then put the bolts back in. will this not work for u guys?
Ya, you can. But like I explained how all those components have to come out first to get the pan low enough to remove. The gasket is not like a typical gasket that seals the edges of the pan. Its one huge piece that covers the entire pan and the oil pump pick up goes through that. So the pan really needs to come straight down and you need to angle the old gasket to get it around the pick up. IF you remove your upper intake, you may have the height to make it eaiser.
