And I'd hafta say, I really didn't notice a difference in performance between the two. But if a difference is to be noticed somewhere, I would expect it more in a v6 two to one piece changeover.
With a v8 car, I wouldn't waste my money on an aluminum shaft thinking it's going to give you tire ripping performance gains.
The idea behind the two-piece driveshaft is for vibration dampening when the shaft hits more of a critical speed (two short shafts are more stable than one long one). I just don't understand why GM thought it was more important in a v6 car instead of a v8.

Better grabbing, no. It's still more or less a direct connection. The one piece shaft is less weight than the two piece, which means less power robbing spinning weight that the engine has to turn. Every little bit makes a difference, but it would be a fraction. If tenths of a second mattered to you, that's one thing. But for a street car, I wouldn't go out of my way to do a changeover unless the old one had a bad support bearing, or maybe if the u-joints needed replacing.
