ok my dad has a 94 3.4L V6 camaro that he lets me drive from time to time. when i take it out sometimes i cant get it to go past 85 for some reason - it hits that speed and doesnt go any higher and as soon as it gets there the rpms shoot way up to about 6500. it has in the past been able to go faster but for some reason it cant now. does anyone have any ideas to what this could be?? a friend told me it could have something to do with the cruise control but im not to sure about that. any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

is it an Auto? b/c it might not be shifting into 4th gear. Although my 3rd gear is good to 110mph

 

I've only reached OD once at high speeds in mine, was doing between 110-115 when it shifted out of 3rd into OD...might be the tranny, any leaks at all?

 

yes it is auto and there are no leaks and i dont know if this effects anything but when i drive it i have it in drive not in overdrive

 

thats why it doesnt go into 4th

I got the same car and it ur doin like the first second drive upshift thing your car wont shift into third or 4th if u dont put it into drive and if you r on the gas to hard u will also have a problem because your hitting the rev limiter and you can't go any faster also u may run out of gear cuz sometimes mines in 4th at lik 60 and then by 90 ur out of gear

ok i have tried all of that - put it in overdrive instead of drive and i dont do the shift 1 to 2 to drive thing and i still have the problem of only getting to about 85 and no higher. im thinking it is a problem with the engine because once i get that high and stay there after a few seconds the service engine soon light goes on in which i slow down of course and it goes off. does anyone know what this means and how it could be fixed? it has about 132000miles on it but it still runs smooth other than the top speed problem so i dont know if the mileage could contribute to the problem or not
