Default Possible EGR valve failure?

Hi my car runs fine excpet for the little problem of it likes to start up and idle up at at like 2k. Sometimes it will drop down to normal but it usually just stays high. Ive drove it around for quite a while like this and honestly i dont know why i haven't gotten on here. But is that the egr valve and can i put egr removal plates on instead of purchasing a new egr valve bc they spendy.

It's possible that the EGR is causing that, but you'd have a code if it was. It's more likely a vacuum leak. Listen for a sucking sound with a piece of rubber tube to your ear and the other end under the hood. My Saturn had that problem until I replaced the intake manifold gasket. If there's a leak in the intake manifold, you can find it by spraying brake cleaner around where it mates to the engine. If there's a leak, it'll suck in the brake cleaner and the idle will change for a few seconds, then go back.

brake cleaner is probly not a good choise to use. starting fluid is better but still not good for the motor. both clean the cylinder walls and can burn them. so long as u use for just finding the leak your ok.

Well yeah, I wouldn't recommend blowing these things in continuously LOL. But thanks for bringing that up, Craby. My point above still stands, though, that it's more likely to be a vac leak unless you're getting a code for a bad EGR valve.

well i am getting a code for my egr valve and even tho im throwing the code i am getting some exhaust welding done tomorrow so im having him take the egr valve and confirm that it is bad b4 i decided to replace that very expensive little part. : ( If it is that part would i be able to replace the egr valve with an egr block off plate? and block off where it comes from my exhaust manifold and block off where it goes into the intake manifold, and then what happens to the electronic plug? Thanks guys!
