well i got the scan/code reader todayand it said number 5 cylinder misfired, code po305, then i started the car and it ran smooth so i cleared the code and took it for a ride and when i gave it gas it backfired the smoothed out again but it set the same code again so i added some fuel system cleaner and injector cleaner so now ill take it a ride and let you know what happends. oh i checked the sparkplug wire and it is the only one that is different? might have had a problem before with someone eles

 

it wasone of the coils i swapped it around and it followed(the mis)thanks everybody.

 

I have a 96 Rs and had the same experience. Turned out to be the fuel pump. About $900.00. I think the axles have to be removed to get at the fuel tank. Lots of labor.
Just a guess but Maybe???
