what would be the best brand for the 3.8 performance parts?

Depends on what performance parts, if you broke down to what you need then picking brand names would be alot easier

i've got magnaflow exhaust, slp intake, i want to get headers, a chip, and a short throw shifter

Chips are just a thing that makes your car run really rich. Just buy HPTuners and have someone tune it. See sticky that someone linked above.
