First off hi and thank you for looking,
ok what im asking help for is... my 3.4l v6 engine wont turn over on the first try, and sometimes the second. itturns just wont start.I was thinking about going to a dealer and getting a diagnostic ran on it because sometimes while driving the "sevice engine soon" light will come on only for a little bit, and only rarely. anyways, i checked the spark plugs because that was the first thing that i thought it was, but they were fine. Im not sure what it is now, but when i took it in to get looked at i wanted to have some idea of what might be wrong with it.
also sometimes, rarely, ounce it does start it will rev up to about 1500 to 2000 rpms for a second or two before it begins to idle.
thanks for looking and for your suggestions

Does the engine run fine when it does start? The starting problem could numerous things: loose ground and/or power cables, faulty cables, bad starter or solenoid. Those are things I would check first, since you said it sometimes it won't turn over...

After you done doing the above, and if you are still having problems, look for an internal fuel leak. Check the fuel pressure and pressure regulator, and make sure that the fuel pressure stays up after the engine is shut down. If the pressure leaks down, it could be a bad check valve in the fuel pump, a bad pressure regulator, or a leaky injector. Another way to verify if the pressure is holding, is to pressurize the system by cycling the ignition key ON & OFF several times without attempting to start the engine. Immediately after the last cycle, try to start the engine. If it starts right away, the fuel system is not holding pressure and needed to be force primed. Every time the key is turned to ON it forces the fuel pump to run for about 2 seconds and then it automatically shuts down, by repeating the process at a rapid rate, and if the leak is minor, the system gets pressurized.
However, this still leaves you the problem of finding which component is bad.

ok, when turned the key on and off and then tried to start it, the engine started right up, ill keep trying that when i go to school and back, because i have only tried it ounce, and the car sometimes does start on the first turn, but most of the time not. so ill keep doing that to make sure that wasnt just a "lucky" start.

I have a similar problem with my '95, and I have a hunch that it could be related to the fuel filter -- I replaced it less than a year ago for the first time since I owned the car since '98 -- but I have heard Fram fuel filters are very poor. So I wonder if the Fram filter is just bad? I know Fram Oil Filters are garbage and stopped buying them recently. Can anyone recommend a good quality fuel filter brand?
