My outer tie rod snapped, could've died.....
So I was originally going to replace my outer tie rods on friday because a mechanic told me I had to replace them because they were bad so i told him i will come back on friday so figured it'll hold until then. I was driving today and going full blast like a *****, when i went to park, noticed i couldn't reverse, so thought my brakes went bad and looked at the passenger side wheel and looked that the tie rod snapped. I didn't aspect that to happen but seen it coming so I take full responsibility. So now i have to spend more money getting the Maro towed to the shop. Really glad it didnt break when going fast unless it was already broken, i was just not able to reverse. When parking, had a friend manually push the wheel to whatever direction to properly park the car.

When my wife bought her car it needed one tie rod, it only moved up and down about 1/8th of an inch. In my past experience 1/8th was no biggy but to much to align properly. A couple of days later at 35mph it broke. luckily the car didnt go crazy just veered to the shoulder a little.
I double checked my car's and had hers rechecked. I am not messing around with these ever again.

Tie rod
These are nothing to play with. My GM book says they are out of spec with 1/8 inch of play. I was with Massey's wife when it broke. The police dept was going to ticket us and have the car towed. Thankfully I had Triple AAA. They picked us up, we had it towed to Les Schwab and they fixed it later that day. They also warned us of the tie rod design. I am not playing around with that one anymore. All newer cars are about the same, the shop tells me they are more precise than they were just a few years ago. I remember when a 1/4 had some payday time left. NOT ANYMORE. Glad to hear everyone is ok.

Did the mechanic say the tie rod was "bad" or "real bad"? Sounds like it was "real, real, real bad".
Note to self.....don't drive like a ***** when mechanic says something important could fail.
At least you and the car are ok. Btw, the caster alignment is what makes the tires track straight ahead on their own while the car is going forward,
which is why the wheel flopped out once you started to go in reverse.

Glad to hear no one got hurt in both cases. When there was a bit of play in mine, I changed both the innner & outer tie rods since I never changed them in the year I had the car. Such a small part can really cause big problems.
Don't drive like a ***** on the road. We drive Camaros which makes us kings of the road no matter if we have a V6 or V8. There's no need to show-up a ricer or civic that sounds like a swarm of bees.
