Default Outer Wheelhouse replacement

I have a 69 SS that the quarter was rusted out. When I removed the quarter I found that the outer wheelhouse was rusted through also, so I got a new one and have been trying to get it installed. I think I F'ed up though...I probably should have just cut the outer section off and made a "patch panel" out of the new panel. But being the stubborn guy that I am I decided to cut the whole thing out and respot weld it in. Now comes the problem, there is basically 3 panels going on at the same time, the outer wheelhouse, the inner wheelhouse and a support. I have already but out most of the outer wheelhouse and have been trying to get the part out that is behind the support. My question is should I remove the inner panel or just try to get inside the car and see if I can find all the spot welds. I have created a monster and I hope that I am not to far gone.

Thanks Bernie

sometimes it's easier to remove the rust, paint over the rest and seal it, then weld the new panel into the old panel...especially on something that's not going to be seen.

Yeah I am too far gone now to just fix the rust. I have gotten most of it cut out already. I was looking for someone that might have done this before and might be able to steer me in the right direction. Maybe someone else will chime in.

Thanks Bernie

the inner and outer wheelhouse are welded together with a spotweld every 1/2 inch or so and can be seen from inside of car. The outer is then spot welded from outside of inner structure of car. You will have to use spot weld cutter bit on structure and on inside or with grinder to cut spot welds and use a small hand chisel to break welds or a air chisel. Remember to clamp on outer wheelhouse or with a couple of sheet metal screws and fit your qrt panel . Lip of outer wheel house fits qrt panel lip and will have to be mended to shape with rubber hammer and probably a jack and block of wood in middle of inner and outer house. Good Luck

Thanks banjerpicker, I think I might try to fold the part that I cut back and see if I can scab the new panel in there. I think that might work. I won't be able get to it until the weekend.

I used clamps and small nuts and bolts to pull the new wheelhouses in tight to the old inners. I also cut out the whole outer all the way to the inner at the factory seam.
