I found out today that my car is California emissions compliant (I'm in Arizona). If I put on a 49 state catalytic converter on a California compliant car... will my check engine light come on? The guy at the exhaust shop said it will. Also the guy at the exhaust shop told me it was illegal to put at 49 state cat on a California compliant car.

What's going on?!?!?! I have a 49 state cat coming in the mail tomorrow so I'd like to figure out what I can do soon.

I may be wrong but i wouldnt think it would matter since you are in arizona.i would think it would only matter if you were in california cuz then it wouldnt be cali compliant.but dont know for sure

 

Check with your state and local laws. Many states have emission standards, not just California, and every state is different.
