Moms Camaro
If the engine races it means it is getting too much air from somewhere, either the throttle blade is not closing fully, or there is an air leak somewhere, such as a bad vacuum hose, leaky maniforld gasket, sticking EGR valve, or even a bad PCV valve. I would clean out the throttle body & make sure the throttle blade is closing fully. Check the throttle linkage including the cruise control cable and make sure they are not binding. Also check the EGR, it could be staying open at the wrong time and cause the car to stall or race, depending on conditions.
Thanks Pete, I will pass on the list of stuff you suggest that we check to my mechanic. He is going to keep my car next week and drive back and forth to work with the scanner on it. I think that was your idea as well. Thanks for sticking with me on this.
DID YOU EVER GET A RESOLUTION TO YOUR 94 CAMARO ISSUES? I READ VICKS AND YOURS POSTING AS MY 1996 V6 CAMARO HAS STARTED TO DO THE EXACT SAME THING. IT FIGURES THAT AS SOON AS THE CAR IS PAID FOR AND TITLE IS IN HAND THAT IT WOULD START TO REBEL AGAINST ME. I AM 33 AND FOR MY DRIVING LIFE I HAVE NEVER OWNED ANYTHING BUT CAMAROS. FROM MY OLD TPI 86 Z28 TO MY 89 IROC I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL. THIS IS THE FIRST 5TH GEN I HAVE OWNED AND IT HAS BEEN A GREAT AND DEPENDABLE CAR UNTIL NOW. ALL TOLD I HAVE $2500 OF MODS AND KITS JUST WAITING TO BE BOLTED ON AND IT IS READY TO GO TO PAINT. BUT UNTIL I NAIL THIS PROBLEM DOWN I AM AFRAID TO SPEND ANY MORE MONEY ON PERFORMANCE MODS. MY CAR IS GOING TO THE SHOP ON MONDAY AND THE CPS IS GOING TO BE CHECKED. MY ONLY CONCERN IS THIS FIXED VICKS BUT NOT YOURS....LET ME KNOW.......
Hey 96, I wish I could say my car is fixed, but I can't. I am supposed to leave it with the mechanic next week so he can hook up his scanner and drive it back and forth to work. I really don't have anything more I can add at this point, except I hope for your sake it is the cps sensor, cause that fixed Vicki's and she seems to still be doing great. There are a lot of suggestions offered in both of our threads. If it is not the cps, you'll at least have some other places to look. It is a frustrating problem, I have had this going on for 2 years. Noone can figure it out. I can go for days with no problems and then it will shut off for no apparent reason. I feel your pain... Hopefully yours won't take as long to solve as mine. Let me know what you find out and I will do the same. My 94 sure looks pretty sitting in the driveway, all shiny and clean, but I'd rather have her out on the road, but at this point I'm afraid to drive her too far.
