Default misfire question

i was getting off the interstate when my SES light came on. so i stopped by autozoneon the way home to have to code read...it was a misfire on cylinder 6.a while ago my cat. started making a rattling noise, which probably means its time for a new one.

my question is this : iwas reading on a differnt forum and saw this,

"when my cat died it didnt say anything about the exhaust, it just kept saying that cylinder 6 was misfiring. check the cat, that could be the source of it all."...........so i was wondering what i should do. would it most likely be the the plugs and wires or the cat.?

If the cat code is not set, take a look at the #1 plug & wire first, cheaper & faster than a new cat. If the cat efficiency code is set, change out the cat first.
