Default Lowering question

Hey I really want to lower my 2001. I was told you could cut the coils and that will drop it and not cause too many problems. Has anyone done this or is it even a good idea? I would like to save money and not buy lowering springs. Any advice will be appreciated.

you can do the hose mod to lower the rear. you take the spring isolator out (between the springs and body) and put some thick hose on the spring to give some cush. need to figure another way to lower front. not a good idea to cut your springs.

ive seen chip foose cut springs before with no problems just remember half a coil is about an inch and you can always remove material but can never add it

and i dont recommend the hose mod i did it and hated the way the car rode afterwords

All Chip cares about is how the car looks at the end of the show. The last coil on a spring is differnt from the other coils its job is to spread stress out so the rest of the coils work the way they should. On a cut coil all the weight is put on a single point and that point will bind and not allow the spring to work and it can cause a crack.

I assume you are trying to save money. Lower springs from eaby are not too costly but you really need to have the car aligned after you lower it because it will throw out your tow. and if you lower the rear you should add a adjustable Panhard bar and align the rear with the front wheels.

Don't drop your car unless you have the money to do it right. You will regret it if you have to drive it everyday.

Alright thanks guys. I guess my best bet is to save up and get some good lowe ring springs. That will probably be the best choice in the long run, I was just curious.

i have cut coils and used them with no problem. as stated you MUST CUT the spring so it will go back in the spring pocket properly
