Default Looking to Buy a 1998 camaro

Hey everyone I was looking to get some input. I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this but I figured it would be because I'm looking to get a v-6 I found for sale.

Here are the details. It is a 1998 Burnt Orange 5 speed. Leather, t-tops, and I was told it is in very nice shape. I'm going to take a look at it tomorrow. It has a lot of miles on it, 170,XXX. No problems with the car at all. The person is selling it for $2800. I do not know much about the value of a camaro. Also, anyone have this many, or more miles on their car? I know the 3800 is typically a pretty reliable engine. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It all depends on how well taken care of it... I know several 3800s over 200k miles and still going strong.

Check for oil leaks at the rear main seal (should see staining or dripping on the exhaust pipe that crosses right behind the oil pan), transmission leaks, leaks at the oil pan itself - these are all expensive repairs. Check for mud in the radiator. Check for oil (foam) on the oil cap. If the previous owner hasn't replaced intake manifold gaskets you probably should sooner rather than later (time consuming job, but doable for the mechanically inclined) as these are the 3800's weak spot and tend to fail. I think the 1998 model still used a two-piece driveshaft -- if it does, check the center bearing if possible, because they tend to go bad.
