Default OBD1 Code Readers Don't Work

I've got an SES light coming on with a high idle at stops. I ruled out vacuum leaks, spark plugs and wires, o2 sensors, and idle control valve by simply replacing them all. I purchased two OBD1 code readers, one that is supposed to blink the codes and another much more expensive one that displays the codes on a digital screen.

Neither work. No codes blink on the traditional reader. The more expensive reader returns an error indicating "Unable to retrieve codes." Clearly, there's something wrong with the OBD1 interface on my Camaro but I'm not sure where to start.

I was going to start by checking all my fuses for the PCM. Does anyone have any advice on what to do or where to start looking to start pulling codes again?

need to know yr and model. my 93 has a 92 plug in so i have to use the 92 setting in the digital scanner i have. some 93s have the 93 plug and some have the 92. some may have a 94 plugin. if u have a 99 u will need a obd2 scanner.

It's a 1994 v6. The OBD1 adaptors appear to fit, but hopefully you guys know better than I do about this.

on my scanner it asks what yr car and i had to bounce from 93 to 94 and then to 92 and thats were i found it. so if your scanner is similar try some different yr. most likely a yr one way or the other. also may try a truck one for 94 and see if u get something there.

I'm not positive but halfway between 94 and 95 they switched from OBDI to ODBII, that could be causing you a little bit of a problem.

That was '95 Dan. They still had an OBD-I system w/an OBD-II port.

What's the make/model of the scanner you're using? Are you sure you're using the correct cable for your year car? I would call the vendor who makes it.

I use an Autoxray EZ-Scan 6000 on my '95 3.4L, and it scans fine...
