i thought the obd2 would have been easier to work with but everyone keeps saying they rather tune the obd1 lt1. and out of the obd1's, the lt1 has the least amount of flws at the 95.
to be honest though, interior doesnt bother me so much. as you have seen, i wont hesitate to just swap it out. haha.
but im still learning about these v8's anyhow, so all input is accepted so i can get an overall view of them. but i think i am looking to get an lt1. it may not put out as much power as the ls1, but apparently the ls1 is famous piston slap quite easily because of a design flaw. and i have seen a few of those z28s advertised with the piston slap too.
of course no engine is unbreakable without proper maintenance, but the longer they last on their own, the longer you will have them when you treat them right too.

I had a Amp before I left work and came home to read this. Hahaha.

I will really need a new tranny no matter which engine?? I thought 93-95, the LT1 still used the same automatic trans?
Technically, 93-02 all used the same trans. But to break it down for the V8s, 93 was the 4L60/700-R4 non-computer controlled. 94-97 was the 4L60E (computer controlled) and still had the SBC bellhousing bolt pattern. 98-02 was still a 4L60E, but had the LS bolt pattern. The V6s run the same except the bolt pattern changed in '96. All of the transmissions use a different bolt pattern on the bellhousing for each engine.

As far as tuning goes. 93 requires a chip change. 94 is the easiest of the OBD1 to tune because it can be flashed and is a OBD1 computer and port. 95 having a OBD1 computer/OBD2 port is where a little trouble comes in.
I would think OBD2 cars would be easier to tune because there is more aftermarket tuning support than there is for OBD1. Also, on the case of the vented opti-spark that came into action in '95. That can easily be swapped out on the earlier models.

I love my LT1. The fact that I own a car that had some pretty cutting edge technology in it's day makes me feel good. Plus, having reverse cooling will allow me to up the compression while staying pump gas friendly. But he LS1 is a power monster that has a huge aftermarket support. As far as the piston slap goes with the LS1, it wasn't really a design flaw. The block is made of aluminum which requires a little bit more clearance to allow for piston expansion when the engine warms up. Once warm, on a good engine, it will go away.

And no Amp this time. I'm focused from finally getting to sleep in a little bit.
