yup there is a sensor. it turns the light on after you release the E-brake if it's dark enough.

On my '99 Z28 the daytime running lights are the parking lights or some
such. If I pull up on the parking brake one notch while the car is
turned off and then start the car, the daytime running lights are
disabled. The DRL's bothered me at first but I just got used to them.
Actually having them on tells other people you have a new F-body since
the older ones (before '98 I believe) didn't have that feature, that's
about the only positive thing I can see for them.

My '97 always has it's running lights on after I release the e-brake. They turn off after I shut the engine off. But when the engine is off, I can manually turn them on with the switch. I think that's the way it's supposed to be.

In 2000, GM made automatic headlights standard. I read that somewhere.

There is a way. I would get a wiring diagram for the switch. Run a new fused wire from the battery to the switch (use a 20 amp fuse 16 guage wire) ad then run it to the input side of your lights. Then for your outputs you can use the stock switch and run new wires to the head lights and running lights to bypass any system.

There ya go. Remove the module! I have been swapping a 97 engine and harness from an Astro into my moms truck and it has DRL. But they dont come on when I removed the module. And the head lights still work proper. Now mom can drive at night in stealth mode.
Why do they bother you? You cant see them when your in the car driving.
