Default Lid Question, and Throttle Body Spacer

So I tried to order the whisper lid and I called whisper motorsports and found out they don't make it anymore. I have a 2001 3.8 maro and am trying to find a lid for it. Will the SLP one fit on the 3.8 engine? If not im just gonna pull out all the plastic in the OEM lid and sand it down. Will that work? Also, I'm about to put in a Helix Power Tower Plus throttlebody spacer in to try and get some more power and would like to know some feedback on it.

The SLP lid will work fine, and will work better than sanding down the baffles, but probably not by much. From what I have seen in previous threads about throttle bodies, is that they will not give you any additional power, unless your car needs it (by need, meaning your car is already upgrading and putting out lots of power). Get yourself a cat-back exhaust (magnaflow is great for the price) and a CAI. With those two things alone, you will feel a BIT of a difference in response, and it will sound good. You can take it a step further by upgrading your cat and headers as well.

Are you positive that the SLP lid for the v8 will work on the 3.8?

I believe I've read the SLP lid works, too.

LOL, if Whisper isn't making them anymore then WHAT ARE THEY MAKING?! It was like 2 yrs ago when they were pricing plastic molding to make more lids, and now they just bowed-out?! WTF.

IF the SLP lid works, you will have to create a connection to the TB, as it does not line up like on LS1s.

That’s an easy one. I see it all the time. They where shopping the mold around to get the best price because the current mold is shot. Once the got they price they estimated the per year sales to makes sure it was a good investment. I am sure their sales have been declining every year. They would have projected return on investment and most likely decided it was better to put that investment in a new car just coming out instead of a car that was stopped being made 9 years ago.

I see it all the time. Infact part of my job is to design processes to make parts that where molded because the current orders no longer justify a mold. These are generally very high end parts for Airplanes because of the costs involved to machining a part that was designed to be molded.

im pretty sure the v8 lid will fit but the problem is that u will need to figure out a way to connect the lid to the throttle body because the hose that connects the throttle body to the stock lid wont work.

edit: and whisper no longer makes lids and i havent seen them sold anywhere online, the only way to get them would be to buy them used from someone, ask in the classifides on this site maybe someone will sell you one, thats how i got mine
