I switched back to 10W30 since winter time was approaching.

The way I look at oil is, Summer time means more heat and the viscosity of the oil begins to thin. Whereas winter means colder and the viscosity of the oil is thicker. Just makes it easier on the oil pump.

I believe it's 5w-30 in winter cause it will flows quicker thus lubricating the engine faster though I could be wrong

I too had a tapping noise that seemed to be louder on the passenger side when standing outside of the car listening to it idle. The tap turned into a knock and the knock turned into a parked car with a grenaded engine. It honestly sounded like an exhaust leak mixed in with a small valve tap. At its worst, it sounded like a dryer falling down a flight of steps. Take it to a garage and have a mechanic listen to it. That's what I did. He told me it was definitely bottom end and I had time to save up for a salvage engine.
