The other day I ripped apart yet another Transmission mount in my 98 Auto 3.8

Every time, I have used a different brand and every time They still break after a while.
I don't drive like a race car, what reason would they keep breaking so easily? Is it that torque arm thing?

I'm on my 4th or 5th one now..

Oh, and the Mount on it when I bought the car wasn't GM, it was aftermarket.
Could a broken/Bent part cause this too?

check to make sure the motor mount bolts are tight. have a look at the rearend for anything worn or lose that would let it move as well. is the car jumping when you take off like the trany is slamming into gear?

 

You gotta try and keep those "neutral drops" to a minimum.

 

Why don't you try the GM version, see if it's better than the aftermarket ones?

 

Motor Mounts are fine, I checked them first.

Its the MOunt Breaking Loose. If you apply a bit of torque on takeoff, You can feel the tranny slam into the body of the car.

My Pinion seal leaks a little, But I don't believe there is any movement back there. I'll have to triple check.

Hah, I've never done that. I can't believe people would though.

Thats probably whats going to end up happening.

I want to know why my car didn't have one to begin with.

 

yes i understand that its the trans mount, a lose motor mount will let the motor move that moves the trany mount in a way its not meant to. sideways. the rearend hooks into the rear of the trany by the torque bar, if the rearend is moving more than its supposed to and jerking on the trans in a way that can also effect the mount lifespan.

 

How about the shocks? Especially in my rear I need some. Could that affect the rear end movement somehow? If there are 2+ People in my car I bottom out on most bumps
I hate being broke. The Tranny mount I have now came from a friend at the Car Dealership that starts with F and ends with D, and It is lifetime warranted. SO I may slap another one in the mean time.

 

I do know my braking on my old '95 improved in the rear after I changed out the shot stocker shocks. Best to replace all four at once -- how many miles on your car? Lowered or not? Stock shocks? Also check your rear bumpstops and replace as necessary. If you are bottoming out, yes, your shocks are not up to the task.

 

To affect handling and drive-ability, yes.
To be the reason for tearing a trans mount apart, no.

 

hey guys i know this is a really old thread and im a newb here but I dont know much about this tranny mount issue i've read the threads and stickies but i cant find much on why I have to replace my tranny mount again so soon...I replaced mine 2 months ago and now I have the same uncomfortable jerkyness in the shifter and sliding of the trannsmission..are there any bushing or links I should replace..Im missing a rstb but I doubt that has to deal with the moving of the tranny..alright thanks! appreciate the help sorry bout the old thread
