It's better to have too much wire. I have 8.5 on a v6. Not necessary but i have them and dont have to worry about them. With new coils, the big wires will make sure to take full advantage of that. I say go for the big wires. And MSD knows there **** if anybody.

Keep in mind that as good as MSD is, if your ignition is working properly now, you aren't going to feel much of difference, or possibly none at all. The reason to upgrade the ignition is when you have seriously modified the engine, and the stock ignition ,due to higher compression or RPM range can no longer fire the plugs consistently.

Or you can go with AC Delco or similar that offer a lifetime warranty at Murray's and you are set for life! ;-) Why go overkill on a V6, unless you have a real need?

if you're going to do it... you might as well do it so u have more then u need rather then not enough. Besides a good ignition system never hurts cold start ups or accesory life

Indeed. AC Delco would be the best way to go. Ignition upgrades really only lengthen longevity of the components. As Pete said, you won't notice much, if any, of a performance gain. The computer directly controls the advance and retardation of the spark, so there's not much left to do.
