Hoists are great to have but I have never used one to hold up an engine I was under. I would not trust even the top of the line unit for that no less my POS HF unit. I would jack the car up good and high with stands. Make up a wood blocking jig to support the motor them setup jack stands at the right height and lower the car. It sounds complicated but I can do it in about 10 minutes. Its helps to have a saw and drill and some crappy 2x4s.

The only thing between me and losing a finger is a hydraulic seal? No way. I have seen to many fail. If that motor wants one of my fingers its going to have to crush a few inchs of wood to get it.

Hi, I actually had to take out an oil pan with the oil in it still. The previous owner of the car had taken it to a shop where some import racers take their cars. They did the oil change and when they finished up they spun the welds inside the pan by over torquing the bolt. In the end it was an expensive oil change for me, but the gasket no longer leaks and I no longer smell burnt oil on my exhaust.

If you losen your mounts and jack the motor up in the back you should be able to place it on a stand and remove the pan. If you do this yourself you can trust in the work done to your car. Or pay 300 to 400 dollars and feel somewhat ok that someone who really could care less about your car did the work.

If its a buddy, then go buy yourself some cokes or some beers and have a good time!

Always a good time to replace the motor mounts...you can kill a few birds with one stone...

Rakassan!
