How easy is it to burnout with a 3.8?
I have a 97 rs with the 3.8. I drove the car to a big parking lot and wanted to see how well the tires gripped. I stomped on the pedal, but I didn't hear any squelling or didn't really feel the car bog down it just accelerated pretty well. When I got out my freind told me that I smoked up the tires, which was suprising because I didn't feel it.
This is kind of suprising to me because in my dad's 02 cadillac dhs I could squell the tires with no effort at all. I could get them to squell with just 1/4 throttle if I got on it fast. And I definitely knew if the tires were spinning because it wouldn't go anywhere. It has 300hp, but it's a heavy car and has fwd.
I've noticed the tires on the camaro are pretty good quality. I never drove a rwd car before so I don't know is it not supposed to squell?
I'm going to change the fuel filter and check the fuel pressure and cat. It's had a tune up recently and runs really well. Is it necassary to use the brake if you want to do a standing burnout in this car?

i have a '96 with 167k miles on it when i first got it. Still ran great and when it was stock i could come to a dead stop, drop it in first, and punch it, and it would do a burn out for a good while without holding the brake. Guess it all depends on what u want.
Now that the roads got wet and slippery I wish the tires wouldn't spin so much. I'll wait till it gets warmer to try it again.
Was your car a manual? My car's got less millage then yours, so it's weird. I've heard that other people have problems doing burnouts with the 3.8 auto due to bad tranny mounts. I'll have to check into that. Also I've noticed the throttle cable is too loose and because the pedals are aftermakret and wider they rub and iit doesn't quite get to wot. There is a way to adjust the slack right?
