Default How do I tell what rack I have?

Hi, recently accuired a 1994 v6 3.4l Auto Convertible. When I took delivery of it I was laid up with back issues and unfortunately am still not yet vertical. I know that I need a new rack and pinion for it but having done some internet searching there appear to be two different racks. One is
95226MS a base Camaro with Performance Steering and the other is
95226M a base Camaro with standard steering.
So my question is how do I tell which one to order.

I tried a quick search of the forum but quickly got lost in all sorts of interesing (but irrelevant) threads. If the only way to tell is physical check please can you be clear on the explanation as I will be asking my wife to go out and do the check, I am hoping that there is some telltell "oh yes the 95226MS has a large square nut at the left end" but I know this is probably not the case. Again if its a case of you should be able to see X in this spot if you could include a picture or point me to a diagram so she can be fully armed when she goes looking.

Best case scenerio is that "it doesnt matter one has less turns end to end then the other, but you can use whichever" would be great.

Again thanks in advance for any and all help with this (please dont flame me to hard if this is a real dumb question, Ive been on heavy duty meds for 3 weeks so my mind is a little fuzzy)

Next question anyone in the Staunton VA area want to earn a few $ swapping a rack and pinion?

Performance rack or (V8 rack) only came on Z28 and cars with the Y-87 preformance package. If car came with a posi rear and rear disk brakes they it will have the preformance rack, I think GM also put in on the RS car but GM did not make a RS in 94.

That does not mean you can not order the closer ratio rack. The only differents in the racks is the ratio. The preformance one is tighter.

Ok Thanks I have also stumbled across some more info incase others ask the same question in the future. A standard rack takes 2.75 turns lock to lock. The performance rack takes 2.25 turns lock to lock. It would appear that either rack can be used in wither application. Also most suppliers have the performance rack at the cheaper price. Currently autozone have a 20% discount that makes the rack $105 (there is a core but you get that back) shipped for free. Cant really argue with that. Its a duralst
