Default High Oil Pressure After Sensor Change!

Hi Camaro Forums,

I have a 97 Camaro with the 3.8L V6. I was changing my water pump and hit the oil pressure sensor with my ratchet on accident. The sensor broke into two pieces. I bought a new sensor from AutoZone. The part number is PS240. I unthreaded the old sensor and threaded in the new one. I tightened it down and plugged in the connection. Upon starting my Camaro, I now have 80-90 PSI at cold idle. It does not change and fluctuates between 80-90 while driving as well. even at hot idle, it is still 80-90 PSI. I do not know why it is not changing. Before breaking the old sensor, I had 60-65 PSI at cold idle, 25-35 at hot idle, and 55-65 while driving. I checked my oil level and it is 1/16th of an inch above full. It is the same level as before the sensor change. Is this a faulty sensor? Operator error?

UPDATE: I have bought a manual oil pressure gauge. It now reads 60 at cold idle, like normal. So, does the fault lay on the sensor? or maybe a bad wire somewhere?

I would first test it. if its grounded out it will max out and it sure seems like it may be doing that, or its the wrong sensor. take the sensor back and ask them to make sure its the right one and if so to test it. correct number, standard motor products sensor ps277

they may have given you one for 94 3.8 which is a different number and reads sensor output differently
