Ok, well I got an EGR code so I unplugged the egr sensor since you only need it lower emissions when starting up and that solved my driveability issues so it idles alright. The only codes I am getting now are left and right oxygen sensors, if they were bad and I changed them, should I notice a spike in my mpg? Does that really play that big of role? Thanks

duane18: The secondary air pump is also to lower emissions. My pump was on the driver's side in the front near the rad. If it's not working then it can cause issues.

warehimer33: Unplugging the EGR is a good idea, but it can cause other problems. Either get a new one or cap it off completely. You'll need to tune the computer though to remove the EGR.

Drivability issues will eventually show up, but not till the cat gets clogged. The air pump helps burn unburnt fuel in the exhaust. This prevents the fuel from burning in the cat creating temps hot enough to melt the core of the cat. This system is electrically operated and will not rob any horse power. I would leave the system in place.

Leaving the EGR unplugged will give you lower mileage and throw codes. If you live in an emissions area you will fail emissions tests.

You will only lose about 2 -3 MPG when you are cruising. In town and stop and go driving does not activate the EGR system so you will not have any change then.

Ok, so I changed the oxygen sensors and filled the tank up and I'm going to see if I get better mileage now. Thanks

Another random question, how do you get the stock muffler off?
