Help?
Alright guys. I finally have got my Camaro that I always wanted, ... almost. My insurance wont allow me to have a v8 until im 25 years old. They literally will not insure me. So, now that I have already bought my Hugger Orange 1999 v6, I want to make it fast. I dont know a whole lot about cars but im trying to learn, so I thought I would ask my questions on here. 1st off, do any of you all know anything about the f-bodys making a horrible squeaking noise near the back of the car? Because my car squeaks terribly sometimes while driving and I need to figure out how to stop it!
My main question though: Would you all suggest selling my engine now toward a v8 and dropping it in there, or would you suggest me trying to add mods to make it faster? Thanks guys.

first the squeak may be the suspension spray some wd40 or other lube on the shocks springs bushings everything and if it goes away its the suspension... id do everything one at a time that way you can pinpoint it
second unless you have a spare 10,000$ lying around, a donor car, about 200 hrs of spare time, fab skills, and a garage filled with tools the V6-V8 swap isnt a good idea your best bet is boltons starting with a CAI and a full exhaust (headers Y pipe cat back) then a tune (unless you have the money for boltons right way) pcmforless.com is the place to go they have free retunes then after that you can start bolting on performance mods the 3800 motor is a very good engine one of the best but the very best thing you can do is tunning after mods
dont forget about forced induction i would assume the 3800 is all ready for it since you can get it supercharged (to me it would save tons of money making all the engines ready for it) but dont think SC because your throttle body would need to be where your radio is think turbo

Noise could be anything from worn Control arm bushing, bad shocks all the way to a loose spare tire. As for the V6-V8 swap there is a sticky that covers it. There is also a sticky on where to start modding you 3.8. These cars have been around a long time and so have the forums. Make the search function your friend.
Can you differentiate when the car squeeks? Over bumps? In turns? Braking? Rolling roads?
If you're going over bumps, your shocks and bushings could be worn causing them to squeek.
In turns could be shocks, sway bar bushings (they will usually have a slight rattling noise after time), and springs
When braking, your front A-Arm bushings could be getting weak (least likely.) Most manufacturers, GM included [ironic], didn't like to skimp on the A-Arms and bushings because they play a much larger role in everyday driving than the rear.
And on rolling roads would most likely be springs.
There are a million things it could be but we're here to try to help ya. So any more info would be appreciated.
If you cannot afford insurance on a V8, I don't advise swapping in a V8 because if you wreck, high chances are your claim will be considered fraud. If you wanted a V8, you should have bit the bullet and got one.
As for power mods, there are stickies all over this forum. I'm sure if you have more in depth questions, you can PM myself or Gorn along with several other members and we can help you out. We all have our little specialties

The squeaking sound usually happens when im going faster than usual in the city (around 50-60mph) but it also happens every once in a while when im not going fast? It also tends to make it worse whenever I put my foot on the gas. Its weird and very annoying.
But there is a guy that lives close to me, and he has a Camaro just like mine except he has swapped the engine like 3 times. He told me a place to call and see if they have a Chevy truck engine thats a v8. Well I did and they have a 6L Chevy Silverado engine and he said that it was perfect and that they can also install it for me. What do you all think??

Your friend is full of it or he owns a 3rd generation not a 4th. Just go do some reading its all in the stickys. These cars are designed around the motor. NO shop will even quote putting anything in there except what you already have. Don't take my word give them a call.
A performance shop is a little different than a normal repair shop. There are performance shops that will swap anything into anything else!
As for the noise I would look into servicing the diff. My Z28 kinda howls and barks when I accelerate and I dont have a dog tied to the bumper (my name is not Grizwald). I need to service the diff I hope that it is not damaged, I have not had the cover off yet.

Squealing could be wheel bearings. Take a corner hard both left AND right and see if it gets louder on one of the two. If so, then that will tell you which bearing is bad if it's not both. My wheel bearings were bad in my car when I bought it and it was squealing badly.
