Default heads on the 3800 series II

Ok so here a while back I had the weirdest no start issue I have ever had with any car on my 96 3.8L, I got it all sorted out FINALLY and have been driving smooth as silk ever since, now I am having a rod knock that started just recently so I decided to go ahead and get another engine and have it ready to go before this one bites the dust, Ported and polished the heads forged pistons, nex hardware all around, all the way down to the oil pump, now the problem I have never in my life seen heads that you do not set lash on the haynes says it does not require and is not possible to adjust the heads, now I do have tbi and sometimes things will make no sense to me for weeks then one day the light comes on so forgive me if this is one of those days but if you cant set lash how is it going to run without popping and gasping?
Someone please help me with this.

Setting valve lash is a term that is used for adjusting mechanical cam shafts which are aftermarket or on high performance imports . When setting a hydraulic lifter vale we just say setting the valves. Non-adjustable rockers/valves are nothing new. Chrysler has had them for the last 50 years. With a hydraulic cam there is allowable error in the adjustment. This will vary from one manufacture to the other but some allow for a lot of error.

There are some limitation to non-adjustable rockers. You are fixed for things like deck/head height and Cam dewell radius. Machine shops know how much is ok to machine off and Cam manufacture will let you know if you need other push rods. If you go nuts on machining and Cam you can buy adjustable push rods get the car running good then measure the adjustable ones and order new solid ones. There are only a few Cams available for the 3800 so the process of get everything working should be well documented. Sorry I have not done a Cam in a 3800. I see no reason to in a world where 400 hp engines are sitting in junk yards
