the lower stat is good when your constantly at a high rpm to keep the engine from over heating. our cars are designed to operate at 195*, until than the computer doesnt operate as it should (like a carb not opening the choke).

well, i wouldve posted this several days ago. but i put the 195 degree thermostat in. but for some reason my temperature gauge is still showing a max of 150, and as low as 140. it fluctuates between the two while driving. i know its cold out, but i dont think the coolant temps should still be that low. if that is the case, then apparently i had a 195 degree stat in it in the first place because theres almost no difference in where the needle sits. however, the fans will still kick on when the gauge needle hits around 210ish.

well, i learned of the two different temperature sensors on my car. if i know correctly, the one on the lower intake next to the thermostat housing, is the one that controls the cooling fan only. then the one just in front of the driverside head, right behind the power steering pump, is the one that goes to the gauge. but my questions and concerns is, which one of the two tells the ecm the car is at normal operating temps so the air/fuel ratio can be set correctly? and there is only one wire that runs to the sensor (the one on the head.) and it looks like its been cut at one time. is there supposed to be two wires that run to that sensor? or is it just one?

well, i pulled the one from the head, looks to be some sort of corrosion all over it. almost like a rust of some sort. i took some sand paper and did a little bit of sanding and brought it back to its original gold copper look. installed it, and ill see what it does when i go take a drive later.

cooling fans are controled by the ecm so that would be the one.

Okay cool. Well I went on a drive and I guess mt gauge reads fine. Its still fluctuating between 140-150. Idk if its just because its cold out or what. But I guess ill just have to deal with it lol. I should be happy because at least its not over heating lol
