get er home
my power steering pump bearing spun itself and then the belt burnt through. i need to get the car home without a tow/trailer. any ideas on how i can get a belt onto atleast the crankshaft and the water pump? the alternator, tensioner pulley, and ac compressor are all still good. a smaller belt should work i just dont know what size and was hoping someone would've done this before. thanks in advance

I am not proud of it but I once used a pcs of nylon rope tied around the crank and water pump to get home once. It made it 15 miles but that was the V type pully and I never went over 1400 RPMs. I told that story once and a another guy told ne he used a shoe lace and went around the water pump and the cranks shaft 3 times. He said he made it home from school almost an hour. No idea if it was true. I could see a leather shoe lace being better then nylon rope. Old machines used leather belts on smooth pullies and I know of some those lasted 50 years. An old leather belt pulled tight and 4 staples might do the trick.
