Hi,
I am in the middle of pulling a 3.4L out of a buddy's 1995 camaro. We have everything undone and the engine hooked up the hoist and off the mounts. We can not get the engine seperated from the bellhousing, should it just slide away from the bellhousing, or does it need some "persuasion"?

double, tripple check to make sure u got all the trans and converter bolts. some of the auto trans i have changed have needed a little help getting it off. nothing major just a little hammer. lol just kidding. i just used pry bars and turned the converter as i applied pressure at two locations as close to opposing as i could trying to not let it get jammed. its usually the trans that gets stuck. the only 4l60 i changed came right out no problems.

 

Sometimes the two get stuck to each other. The tranny is aluminum, block is iron. Sometimes the studs on the block get rusty and refuse to let go of the tranny. I would check again that you have every bolt out, and soak anything rusted with some pb blaster.

 

Its a 5 speed if that makes any difference. I've got the 6 bellhousing to block bolts out. Once those are out, they should seperate? I will give it a soak with some pb blaster and maybe use a prybar to help seperate the two.

 

make sure there isnt a missed bolt all the way at the top. both my books show 6 bolts on the 5 speed so u should have got them all. there should be two knoobs that come out of the block one on each side. they go into holes in the bellhousing. they get stuck so if u pry do it close to those knoobs. be very carefull and dont get crazy on it, its alum. if it wont come check again for any bolts or something hanging it up. soak it again and do over.

 

If you see a gap between the engine and the tranny it most likely need some help but just a bit. The input shaft gets rust and clutch dust on it and does not want to put thur the clutch plate. You should be able to just work the motor left and right and the gap should slowly get wider. Normally it does not feel like a solid lock. More like someone put a bungy core around the motor and trans.

 

Well it came out, and all it seemed to need was a fresh set of eyes/ arms. Thanks for the help guys.
