Engine Cradle, sub frame, Same thing??
its a 98 camaro v6 3.8 3800 series II, I wrecked it. My Tranny is cracked rack and pinion gone along with my oilpan and Engine cradle. I need major help, my insurance paid it off, i dont want to buy a new car yet. Im waiting for the new Camaro. I can sure use some expert advise.
HONESTLY, junk the car there is stressed put on the rest of the components from the impact. The new parts most likely won't square up either. If you really want to restore this, you'll want to also replace your motor, drive shaft, trans, and possibly your rear axle. You have to check the rear axle for extra back lash. The easiest way to do it is take off the hood, fenders and bumper. Disconnect your brakes and the front wiring harness. Drain all your fluids. Take the 2 bolts in the back of the subframe holding it to the car and then the two in the front. You'll still have your inner structure to deal with too. you'll either need a frame straightning tool or cut it out and weld new **** in. You'll need pretty much the WHOLE front clip from another donor car. You'll also have to disconnect the drive shaft directly off the rear axle and then pull it out of the trans. Disconnect the shift linkage and or cables and the speedo sender. I'd recomend also take out the trans mount. If you're going to reuse the motor and or trans, take off the access pannel for the torque converter or flywheel and disconnect the torque convert off the flex plate so you can just pull the motor and trans apart when it's out.
there is a complete 98 donor at a local junkyard, it think it will be alot cheaper than buying another one, im not going to buy another v6 and i cant find a decent z28 or iroc z under 7K-9K. Thanks Norm.
