Default engine chuggs....

I bought a 97 v6 camaro 5speedwith 98,000 miles on the body. the guy i bought it from did a engine swap with a 99 v6 engine and that only has about 48,000 miles on it. I have had it for about two months and has been great until now. One day im driving and i switch from 2nd to 3rd and it starts to chugg i let go of the gas and press again nothin happened then the check engine light came on. So i got it home and checked it out, everything sounded fine. The idle was normall just cant make of it. so i hadnt driven it in two days so i take it out to go to the gym which is not far and the check engine light goes off so im thinkin it was just a sensor. but then on the way home it comes back on and the engine is really struggling like it wants to die but wont i give it a little gas and just chuggs almost like its missfiring. so i get it home let it idle and just sounds bad it goes up and down. I know this is long but wanted to detail as much as i can. Please help, this is the 3rd camaro i have owned and never had this problem i love this car but dont have money to take it in even to get checked out so any advice would greatly appreciate, thank you........

A common problem on these is the Throttle position sensor. (just a guess)

Thanks, could a sensor do all that? Cause it just seems like it should be something worse....
