Cleaning a EGR valve is pretty easy. You just remove it and use carb cleaner on the underside. Soot can build up right where the valve seals. It will cause rgh idle and a hesitation. If the code is for the EGR valve not seating then cleaning it may help but if you do not have a rgh idle then the valve will most likely need replaced.
You will need to replace the gasket under the EGR once you remove it, don't try to reuse it and make sure you clean the gasket surfaces before you reinstall.
Not a great video but the best I could find. (please ignore when he says reuse the gasket, a small vacuum leak at the EGR seal can cause all kinds of problems and just use carb cleaner )

yeah its got a pretty rough idle. but i think my IAC is going out also so its hard to tell because it will idle at an upwards of 1000 rpm high. Im just going to go ahead and buy a new one and keep the one on it as a spare. but thank you for replying.
