There is not a lot of M90s in these cars, it is simply not worth the work. There is no room to get a intercooler under the M90. Blowing hot air into a engine running pump gas is very limited.

Search for Musicman's build thread. He got is 3800 under 12 seconds. He pushed the t5 as far as he could. Just remember building the V6 to 400+ HP is going to cost you 3 to 4 times what it will cost you to build a streetable LS1. Heck you could buy the car and build the motor for what you are going to spend getting the 3800 to 400 HP. The 3800 is not going to be very street friendly.

I would consider the ls1 or lt1 if all I was going to do was drag race. but I don't want to drag race. I want to run my camaro on the road course. I see much more use from a lighter engine that sits back farther in the engine comparment then from your Z28s. plus I believe you could cut the cowl and a little of the windshield if you go with a plexiglass winddshield and run an intercooler that way. but don't quote me on that. I'll pop the hood on my camaro in the morning and see if thats possible.

I think you may want to reconsider what you are thinking. Road course or drag race, you are going to have more money and time in the car than it's worth. Also, as far as I'm aware, the V6 doesn't sit any further back than the V8s and if it does, it's not more than a few inches. Ls1 weighs in at 430 lbs pan to intake with oil. L36 weighs in roughly 395 lbs pan to intake with oil. That 35 lb difference could always be lost elsewhere. FYI, lots and lots and lots of Camaros are running the LSx and setting them up for road course.

As far as the bell housing position, that would be the same. I think what he meant was the fact that the v6 engine is shorter, which puts less engine mass forward compared to a v8.

camaro69 nailed what I meant.

and LSXs cost what? 10k? after everything is all said and done. and my v6 could be doing 500hp or better for half that? Sure running a v6 doesn't seem like its worth it if you have that opinion on it. Nothing is worth it if you believe its not. I don't planning on winning every race if I stay with my v6. unlike 99% of the people I see race I'm not in it for the money. I'm into racing for enjoying it and pushing my car as far and as hard as I want without having to worry about getting a ticket.

I have been watching 3.8 and 3800s being built since I saw my teachers turbo V6 in 1984. I had several friend build Grand nationals in the 80's while I was building V8s. Since I own a 3800 since 99 I have read a lot of forum and a lot of build thread. One common thing that goes across everyone that has a fast 3800 is the ONLY reason to build a fast 3800 is for the challenge of building a fast V6. You will be very hard press to get one of the successful people to say it was cheaper. They do it for bragging rights. I think everyone of would tell you the cheapest way to go fast is to follow the mainstream.

Even Musicman who is a machinist and a fabricator will tell you if you want to for fast get a V8. If you want a challenge as a builder then get a 3800.

Funny part is there is a another thread today where a guy is asking if you should buy a 2001 SS that runs and has issues for 2K Its funny because with all the work Musicman put into his 3800 that 2000 SS for 2K driven by a newbee would stay even with it.

Forget about the M90. If you go with the 3800 get a turbo. In ANY racing except dragging race when ever forced air is allowed the field always ends up with turbo chargers. For me and road racing a V8 with a stick is the only way to go I want to use the torque to adjust the weight ratio in the turns, no matter what you do with the V6 you are not going have that level of control that you would have with a NA V8.
