coughing exhuast

everytime i let off the gas my exhaust makes a coughing sound? how do i fix it?

That type of backfire is usually from being too rich.

Hard to tell since you didn't metion what year car you got, or wether it is carbed or injected.

it's a 96 3.8 liter fuel injected

I've never met a car that did'nt caugh alittle on deceleration. It's probably normal. Dose it have aftermarket exhaust?
