So been trying to figure out whats wrong with my 95 3.4L Camaro. It overheats when i'm not on the freeway because the fan does not kick on until about 125 degrees or the third quarter to red. It looks like there are 3 relays for the fans and they all seem to just loosely operate under the electrical center.

Not sure where to start or what to fix? Any advice? I almost want to just wire it and have a switch to manually operate the fan. When do the fan suppose to kick on, it can not be correct operating only until the third quarter to redline (overheat) right?

 

Believe it or else, that's considered normal. The engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor signals the cooling fan to go on at 228 degrees. That 3/4 mark on the gauge is 235 degrees. So taking into consideration a slight rise in engine temperature from there till the fans cool the engine back down, and your needle can easily be right at that mark. As long as the fan is going on, and the needle doesn't climb beyond that point, the cooling system is doing what it was designed to do. Some guys don't like the temps going that high, and either install a JET cool engine sensor, or wire an override switch.
