Would it hurt to overfill the oil about 1/2 a quart? I couldnt find the oil capacity in the book and i wasn't completely sure what it was, so i put in what i thought was a gallon, but after looking it was 5 quarts.. Then i found something that said the capacity was 4.5 quarts.. So, should i bother to drain 1/2 qt. oil?

 

I did the same thing as you the last time I changed my oil. I ended up draining the ~1/2 quart out. If you have a good aim you can save the extra oil you added and use it. Just out of curiosity what type of oil and weight did you use?

 

I used Mobil 1. I dont remember the weight though, i'll have to go look out in the shop in a little bit.. It was some lighter weight though i think.

 

I'm might seafoam it later too.. and dad said he would fill up the tank.. lol

 

It has never hurt my car. I usually top off my oil with a little extra.

just an hour ago I changed the Oil on my '95 3.4L... 5 qts of oil like i've done for the life of the car, and nothing has ever overflowed or anything like that. Don't worry too much
