LOL THIS is the way it always seems to happen. LOL but check your spark plugs anyway so that it wont happen again. Just cuz it started up this time dont mean its gunna start up when your havn a baby and need to get to the hospital. HAHA jk

thats what it sounds like. i dont know for sure if u have one or were it is on a 6 but on the 8 its mounted with the coil. i had one go and it was very much like what u are saying.

what distributor? pretty sure the 96 3.8 doesnt have one.

craby is right, 3.8 doesn't have a distributor. It uses a crank position sensor and cam position sensor to keep engine timed and fire the injectors at the right time. Did you check to see if it had fire to the plugs when it would not start? Next time it acts up, take a plug wire off the plug and use a spare plug or spark test tool, ground it to the exhaust manifold, have someone crank it over and see if you are getting a blue spark. If it is yellow, it is a week spark. Then if you have spark, you know to start looking somewhere else.
