so i was driving today and the service engine soon light came on all of a sudden....the car still drives normal, no noticable differences, i did install a k&n intake the other day and the MAF sensor and the hoses are still hooked up....its the 3.4 v6 obviously and 138610 miles on it...could it just be saying it needs a service soon, eg: oil change and wat-not....i know some cars do have a light that comes on at certain mileage saying that sort of thing...im new to the camaro so any help would be great....thanks!

 

No! It means you need to get it scanned & see what it is complaining about. It could be a simple things as a leaky gas cap, or something important that can eventually leave you stranded.

 

check your oil levels. Mine came on one time when i was a bit low on oil i stead of my "ol low" light

 

get it scanned at an auto zone or checkers or even better buy an obd2 scanner for 100 bucks

 

ok, well i went to o"riellys and while driving there the light was off but they didnt have the proper OBD1 scanner so im goin to autozone tomarrow but on the drive home it came back on...the camaro is a 94 as well.

 

duh insert foot to mouth i thought your car was a 96 my bad =P if the light is turning on and off an obd1 cars its usually misfire....

 

ok well i went to autozone today and hooked up the OBD1 and it didnt get any codes...also the light didnt come on at all today and i drove for a few hours...it runs great still...im pretty sure it isnt misfiring, even when the light was on...im guessing a loose wire on an o2 sensor cause i messed with those yesterday and hasnt come on since then...

 

I hope your right but I don't think so. Some codes are hard codes some codes are not. Hard codes have to be cleared. I am pretty sure all the 02 sensors are hard codes. There are a lot of things that can set a soft code, and I have no idea what wrong with your car. When it comes on again get it scaned ASAP.

 

did the light come on when you were going faster than 50mph and coasting? same thing happend to mine a while back.

 

yah i was going roughly 55-60mph on the highway and im not sure if cruise control was on or not
