Default Brake problem?

I have had my 1991 Camaro for two years now but yesterday a weird symbol lite up. It look like ! inside of a circle with ( ) around the circle. Underneath it is says BRAKE. Not sure what it mean and worried it may be something bad. This symbol has never showed up before so I am not sure what it is. Please someone help!

Default RE: Brake problem?

Have you checked your Brake Fluid lately - the level and color? When's the last time you flushed and bled your brake system? Have you checked your hard & soft brake lines for holes/damage/corrosion? If you do it, I would go with the Synthetic DOT 4 (I use Valvoline Synthetic DOT 4 on both my '95 3.4L & '01 SS) which seems to be fully compatible with the DOT 3 application, and has a higher wet boiling point. Stay away from most DOT 5's though, most are a different mixture -- silicone based, as I recall.

Is your ABS light also on?

Believe it or not, if you have worn struts & shocks, they can seriously create major breaking problems that can be fixed by replacing the shocks & struts -- speaking from experience...
