Default Best way to find replacement engine on the cheap?

I seem to have blown a rod (1996 camaro 3.8 3800 series II engine) since theres a loud knocking noise when i rev it up. Im wondering, what would be the best way to look up a replacement engine online since everytime i look up a 3800 series II engine it shows all the 3800 front wheel drive engines that are different than mine. I called a junkyard and they have a 3.8 v6 from a 1997 firebird with 90k for 400 dollars. will it fit and is this a good deal? thanks.

EDIT: typo my bad it is a 3.8 thanks for the correction!

It should be a 3.8, not 3.6. That's not bad. You can check here also... ---> http://www.tacreationsusa.com/v61.htm

Some of the larger salvage yards will even install and warranty the engine.
