Default Auto Transmission

For a while I've noticed that whenever I'm at a slow speed or stopped, and then press on the gas that the car will make a weird noise like grumbling or crumpling. It seems that recently it has been happening more than often. Another thing is that if the car is warmed up and I am driving in over drive then put it to drive that it will make somewhat of a similar sound, but only immeidiately after I put it in drive. When I press on the gas after that though it goes away. I'm thinking that I'll get the transmission fluid changed at the dealer and hopefully that will fix the problem. Anyone have any ideas of what can be wrong?

I'm also thinking I should get the transmission fluid changed. With an auto transmission and about 43,000 miles is it overdue for one? How much does the dealer charge for this?

After the war was over they all went to workin American Motors (AMC)factories and 30 years later took over the factories and produced a car named after themselves. LOL
AMC sold over 670,000 of these POS Gremlinsfrom 1970 to 1978, and each car had at least one gremlin riding in it.

Check your manual, but 43k is a bit early I would say. You can buy a filter and pan gasket and drop the trans pan yourself and you will change just a portion of you trans fluid, which is a better idea at your relatively low miles...

If you end up doing a full flush, be sure to put in Dexron 6, NOT 3 -- as 6 is much longer service life and a lot of other benefits, and fully backward compatible -- worth the extra cost!

If I'm at a stop, then do kind of a hard acceleration I hear a knock type sound coming from mid car area. Would that most likely be the transmission or driveshaft?

sounds like the drive shaft if your hearing it from the mid of the car.

my tranny has been on the fritz since 04. idleswitches fromhighto low repeatedly while in cruise control around 40 to 50 mph (third gear.) Already prepared to get a custom tranny builtwhen this one dies.. One with a quicker shift.

Thanks man. I'm hoping its not the tranny. I recently got the car and it just rolled over 43,000 miles. If its the driveshaft then theres an excuse to get a one piece aluminum one.
