Default Arg, apart again!

Minor vent post warning.

OK, there are a couple of GM engineers that need thwacked with a clue-by-four.

My biggest gripe though for now is the genius that decided that 98+ V6 F-bodies get INTERNAL clutch slave cylinders. From that, you can guess that mine gave up the ghost.

So, I say to my self "Self, since you have to take the car that far apart, why don't you spend a little extra dough and replace the clutch set, flywheel and rear-main while you're down there, since it's just a little bit more time to save yourself a lot of pain in the future."

I replied "Self, that's a damn fine idea right thar."

After that little discussion, I discovered how annoyingly expensive clutch sets for 98+v6 F-bodies are, until I found www.gripforce.com. I bought their "Stage 1" upgrade from stock style for $190 (this was right before they went to 100% ebay store). That was about $90 cheaper than Advance Auto's stock style, and an upgrade to boot! W00T!

I start the teardown as I wait for parts. Get parts. Install parts. So far, no big deal.

Put car back together. Burp cooling system after false start and near overheat [sm=bangbang.gif].

Drive car. All seems well, clutch hydraulics are working nicely, and I'm driving it nice to break in the new parts. Everything is peachy probably for the first 400 miles or so. (12/22/07 or so)

Day after new years: New clutch now slips when the car is cold. WTF? [sm=headbang.gif]

As far as I can tell, there are no major fluid leaks, I'll be crawling under the car tonight (I let it sit for a couple of days) and see if anything is dripping off the flywheel to indicate fluid contamination of the friction surfaces. Meanwhile, I shot off an email to gripforce (who so far is being very helpful, so no slam on them) to ask if perhaps I installed the wrong throwout bearing, as a TO bearing being too tall could cause this as well.

They want pictures of the friction surfaces for warranty, which is fine, but my suspicions are correct in that:

In any case, I get to take the car apart again! [sarcasm]Yay![/sarcasm]

Hindsight: SHOULDA JUST REPLACED WHAT WAS BROKE AND NOT F'D WITH ANYTHING ELSE!
