Default Air Breather on 1999 V6

Hi everyone, this is my first post. I am the owner of a 1999 Camaro V6, automatic. The previous owner installed what I guess is a cold air system. Actually, I'm not so sure thats what it is called. The original breather has been removed and spme sort of Auto Zone-ish chrome pipe and cone shaped breather has been installed. My issue is that the check engine light is on and when it's reset, the code for check emissions come back on after about one minute.

Should I shop around and find the oriignal breather system for my car or deal with the light?

This is my first car and I want it to be like it supposed to be, with no lights on.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Zachary

I forgot to add that, the seonsor, not sure the exact terminology, that is in the chrome pipe was not hooked up when I got the car, neither was the light. When I plugged the sensor in, the light checkengine light came on. Tomorrow I will get a picture of what I'm talking about.

Also, what code(s) are you getting?

I'll stop back by AutoZone and get the codes read again tomorrow. This is the pipe/breather apparatus that the previous owner put on the car. You can also see the plug I am talking about.

That is a cold air intake, and it looks like the previous owner didn't do a very good job of installing it. In that setup, it's taking in the air from the engine bay, which is hotter than the air under the car, which is the correct mounting position. Those sensors you can find at an AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts for cheap, and it's just a quick swap

^ What he said. If you want to get technical about it, that's what they call a "hot" air intake. A stock set up would be better than what's going on there at the moment.

Leave the intake alone for now. Get your codes figured out first and we'll help you from there.
