97 3.8 oil gauge acting up

Default 97 3.8 oil gauge acting up

SO I WAS DRIVING LAST NIGHT WHEN THE OIL GAUGE WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN SHOT BACK UP AND BACK DOWN AND THE LIGHT CAME ON CHECK GAUGES AND SOMETIMES IT WILL STAY ON 60 IS IT MAYBE A SENSOR

Sounds like the sensor.

I kno on my friends it bounces very rapidly when you are coasting so but ur problem sounds a little different does it do it under power or just when ur coasting??

it drops down to 0 in first gear sometimes when im accel and shift in to second it will be 60 again and when i slow down sometimes it will go down again and i noticed every time i hit a bump the check gages light comes on is there maybe a bad fuse im thinking bad sensor hope its not the oil pump going out

when i kept it at 65 mph it was still on 60 and no check engin light nothing

The oil pumps aren't known to fail, they're very well designed. Just a gear drive in the timing cover. If the MIL is on, get it to autozone (or whatever is closest) and have them scan for codes, post up the codes when you get them. If the gauge is just fluctuating, I would think the sensor is getting ready to kick the bucket, luckily they're cheap and easy to replace. I've also worked on a few cars where the connection to the sensor was poor and caused similar problems, check that too.
