assuming you have a 96 camaro with a 3.8.
trade the 350 for a low mile series 3 3.8 from a fwd. you will most likely have more hp than the v8, save money, time and get way better mpg.

any series 2 or 3 3.8 will fit, cant use the non long block stuff, gota use everything from the camaro motor except the block and heads,,, well rockers and push rods too. the new series 3 heads give an extra 20 hp. need the camaro oil pump and pan along with all the top and front side stuff.

nope, all your doing is a block change same as if you got a create motor. should be able to find series 3 l32 with low miles being they made them till 07. i would say 500 buck range 100 bucks for gaskets, get a 20hp gain. i would change head gaskets for piece of mind. rebuild the original? probly lookin at 2k and allot more hours and even then your still stock hp.

Remanufacture engine are almost always cheaper then rebuilding a high miles motor with internal damage. By the time you replace/regrind the crank and bore cylinder replace pistons you into a $1000 bill to the machine shop and you have not touched the heads or bought anything else yet. Low miles used motors are by far the cheapest easiest solution. There are a great many FWD (Front wheel drive) 3800 in yards, just remember the yard will tell you it will not fit. They go by books only. There is also a thread in the V6 section that lists all the cars that came with a 3800 and the process of converting a FWD 3800 over to a RWD 3800.
If you click on the thread in my sig you can step thru the process (96 Camaro Build Thread). I opted to use a low miles 2002 Camaro engine. Since the yard gave me the complete motor this gave me a great many low miles parts that I could use on my engine. I was aware of the FWD motors but since I found a low miles one out of a camaro only 5 miles from my house I went that way. Once you get your list of cars from the FWD conversion thread and head over to Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market and start searching. That site will find you 100’s of motors. The only question is how far you are willing to drive for a great deal. We have all seen stories of guy finding FWD SIII motors with under 10K on them for under $500.
The 200HP 3800 is a great motor if you do not over rev the motor it can easily hit 200k mile. She can do 30 MPG in the process. Stock 3800 SII motor would own that 88 305. The 305 might jump off the line better but from 3000-5000 RPMs the 3800 would pass it up and never look back.

Okay I can possibly get a gtp motor really cheap around here would it be worth it? It's got 100,000 easy miles and they've done a lot of work to it to make it a 300hp motor but they don't thrash the **** out of it

No it will not fit. Just look at where the throttle body is. In your car that is about where the radio is. You can make a custom intake for it but the the engine compartment is not larger enough to add the intercooler under the super charger. Without the intercooler the supercharger is very limited and you would see a faster car with a SIII long block with the GT CAM, headers, some 1.6 rockers and a tune.
