Default 96 camaro questions

I have a 96 camaro with the 3800 series II motor in it and it is having a few issues. it is overheating and when i step on the gas pedal (medium/heavy acceleration) it sputters really bad but when i floor it while its idling NO issues. i have changed the water pump, tune up (spark plugs and wires), ignition coil, camshaft-interruptor magnet, mass airflow sensor. The check engine light is still on and saying there is a misfire. i was told by the mechanics it could be the fuel pump or the throttle body. im glad they threw parts at it and still didnt fix it. any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Did they tell you what the codes were? Have you changed the fuel filter? Checked the fuel pressure? Did you accidentally cross a couple plug wires? Are all the injectors getting the signal to spray? Is the check engine light flashing or steady?

For overheating, do you see a leak? Have you flushed the system. Was it bleed when the water pump was replaced? Are the fans coming on? Did you replace thermo? Are you loosing coolant but don't know where it is going?

Random miss fires and engine overheating is not a good combination to have. How is you coolant level?

they didnt tell me what codes were coming on, i havent changed the fuel filter yet, they didnt check the fuel pressure, the wires are right, checked them, with the book. i dont know how to check the signal spray. the CEL is steady, only saying misfire.

cooling system was flushed and water pump was changed 3,000 miles ago. im in the process of changing the heater core hose because it blew up. the water pump was bleeding. im going to check the fans when i get these hoses replaced. i have to do the thermo now that she overheated. no coolant loss though.

What about the coils, have you test them? There is a procedure for checking the resistance in the haynes manual.

Cool, maybe the the two issues are unrelated.

We have seen several people that have complained about overheating and random miss fires that seemed unfixable. If your head gasket is starting to go it will trap air/exhaust in coolant system and over pressurize it and cause and overheat condition. The coolant gets pulled into the cylinder during the intake stroke and it will cause the miss fire. But if you are sure your not loosing coolant that can not be it.

Check to see if your cat is plugged.

when i get her running again i will see if its leaking. if thats the case would it be better to have motor rebuilt or to just replace it?
