I replaced the water pump and tstat on my 3.4L also... Not too bad -- hope you have a pulley puller ready... sounds like you do with that club -- so I assume you are in the military?
Just start saving for a 3.6L ;-) -- 5th Gen, that is. :-D
OH, and by the way, there is NO WAY a 3.8L will be below your 3.4L in the 1/4 mi. with equivalent mods. (unless you are dreaming) ;-)

No, I'm not in the military but I run a car club that is associated with them. Yup, there's pulley pullers. Didn't need it for the water pump, but I'll need it for the crank pulley. I'm re-doing the timing cover gasket while I'm at it!
